The MEGA (US)
Im not so much a band as a producer. I first got involved in music 10 years ago, at the age of 16, with interest in the bay area rap scene. As Ive matured my style has taken an electro/world flare. There isnt any genre that I wouldnt atempt to incorporate into my repetoire.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
It all started writing rap lyrics and performing over intsramentals at parties when I was 16. Soon I wanted to have original beats and so begun the long slow journey towards owning several synths, drum machines, acoustic instraments, effects processors and anything else that makes sound.
I've always loved just about all music so as my capabilities have grown so has my desire to expand to other genres. Now I would classify myself as anything from Dub through DnB, hyphy through trip hop and psytrance through illbient.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
As a producer there isn't a way to perform live unless it was a collaboration with other musicians. Havent done so yet but certainly open to it.
Your musical influences
E40, Mac dre, Brotha lynch hung, Dj Screw, Mixmaster Mike, Qbert, Rabbit in the Moon, Infected mushroom, Astral Projection, Talvin Singh, State of Bengal, Nortec Collective, Mad Professor, Sly & Robbie, Pink Floyd, The Doors, NIN, Mozart, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and a whole lot more.
What equipment do you use?
Synths, drum machine, sampler, effects, keyboards, guitars, congas, djembes/darbukas, tablas, anything I can get my hands on to make noise or alter it.
Anything else?
I, like life, am full of contradiction. One song might be a means of expressing my desire for eqality, while another may be a mysogynist boast fest. Some of this is a devils advocate approach while some is purely a personal embelishment in things I wouldnt normally get to express outside of a rap song. My philosophy is I want to catch your interest with some vulgar outrageous material so that I may sneek deeper more meaningful messages to those who would normally only be interested in the vulgar.
