The Magnetic North is a new ambient project fronted by Mark Weiler. Formed in April of 2004, the Magnetic North began recording and assembling tracks for the debut album. Finally, after 10 months, that album is on the verge of being released. Entitled 'The Desolation Coast', the album is a soundscape that conjures up images of the savage and beautifl scenes that paint the landscape off the coast of Vancouver Island.

Band/artist history

Mark Weiler - keyboards, samplers, effects, noise and love.

Have you performed in front of an audience?

We do not play live, but in the future I would like to experiment with it and see what happens.

Your musical influences

Brian Eno, Cold Sun, Mogwai, My Bloody Valentine, Can, Mike Oldfield, Pete Namlook

What equipment do you use?

I use an old Roland Juno-1 and tonnes of soft synths. I record everything through an audiophile soundcard into a computer that is too slow and is loaded with Sonar.
