The Limey Lads - or the Limeys as they are affectionately know to their inner circle are a dynamic Hip Hop duo bringing the sounds and styles of urban rural UK rap. Their music is experimental, their lyrics thought provoking. They bring their experiences to their art unashamedly, hearts boldly bleeding on their sleeves. Soulful Gospel based lyrics are another defining characteristic, as well as seemingly playful and comedic addresses to society and its members. We love rappin', but we also love rockin' out on instruments. We are jazz musicians at heart, really. We are currently working on our current project "Limey Light" which will feature some hiphop stuff as well as some instrumental groove sessions.Band/artist history
Gosh! we thought one day, ok- you've got eminem- a psudo-black dude from the trailer park, the only credible well-known caucasian flowing. Then you've got your lame, vanilla ice who tried to be from the 'hood. So we thought, hey, we need to show that you can be middle-class, you can be honest, you be a dude who's never even seen a crack head or big gun, you can a born-again christian, and you can be a hip-hop act who's not necessarily, wack. With that, we started beat boxin', freestylin' about daily life in front of a willing audience, some who thought we were the bees-knees, and some thought we were optimistically misguided. Oh well. However, Through the powerful medium of word of mouth, local church youth group leaders and mockers
heard about our skills and said "play at this youth concert". We said "WE'RE UP FOR IT!". We showed 'em all. We showed 'em that confidence, God on your side, some honesty and lyrics, plus a good backing band (in case the PA system is not present- thus depriving you of playing a backing track) is all you need to rock hard. We rocked hard. We've been told by some cynical persons (with regards to our performance) ""Don't give up your day job". Our response was 'we don't have a floppin' day job!!!!') we then worked as jugglers and punsters outside marks and spencers stores in York shopping centres, however we were mistaken for two escaped mentally insane patients. Boy, that was a fun task trying to call our lawyers : We didn't have any. Well hip-hop is for the strugglin' man, so we feel connected to the culture. That is what we do, that is what were are.
nuff said.Have you performed in front of an audience? Its gotta be live for the Limeys - any street corner, any mall, any university campus, in the church, in the youth group. Anything can happen when the limeys are live. The most special moment was playing a youth group in 2002 at the Bathurst PCYC. It was the Limeys first gig by invitation and it was a night that changed both their lives, and the lives of the audience.
Your musical influences
Woah? not enough space to fill 'em all, really. Too many volumes, not enough time. But just quickly: The Cross Movement, Toby Mac, Philmore, Pirates of Penzance, Mikado, Monty python, The avalanches, John Reuben, Rage against the machine, Limp Bizkit, Ben folds, and Irish folk music. What equipment do you use?
Hip Hop doesn't have to belong to the man with the latest equipment, biggest PA, fasted computer or greatest decks. Our music was born at the street level, with those who have limited access to such luxuries. Beat boxing, breakdancing, Mcin’, scratches provided by a schoolbag zipper, this is all you need for a show.wow limey30, you have stunned us with your dextrous command of language. Hope your ryhmes are as good, when you can be bothered to post something! Like we said on the tag of the track, it was an experimentation in sound, so I think you are complementing us? outHey this is the real limey talking to all u posers in europe. This isnt christian rap, its not even rap, its barely music.Sounds great guys, nice beat and guitar - thanks for also stopping in on my page. :)Hey no problem at all, I enjoyed your music too!
