The Lighters
We're The Lighters. Based in Queens, New York. Our only recording has been done in an empty basement, using only the simplest technology. We believe in honest music. If nothing else, we strive for honesty. The band is made up of best friends...so, when we get tired, we shoot pool and smoke or whatever. The End.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
We met in high school. We all come from different parts of Queens and we share our different musical talents to come together for a massive musical orgy. Yum.
Eugene - Lead Guitar/Rhythm Guitar/Harmonica/Piano/Vocals
Dan - Rhythm Guitar/Piano/Vocals
Peter- Bass/Kazoo/Recorder/Vocals
Matt - Drums
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
For now, we seldom play in front of folks... although sometimes you can spot us at a local bar in Middle Village. We're expecting to play bigger and better places in the future.
Your musical influences
The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, The Strokes, The White Stripes, Elvis, Wilco, Buddy Holly, Billy Joel, Travis, Sublime, Ben Folds, Michael Jackson, Louis Armstrong,Fats Domino, Eminem, Tupac
What equipment do you use?
We're not a techno band but we have written some elctronic music. For that, we use Fruity Loops. We use electronic music as a means to attach, rather than detach, ourselves. We try using samples other people don't/won't use. Like a speech by John F. Kennedy...or the theme song from "Ozzie and Harriet."
Anything else?
Eugene and Dan are in the process of writing their first album together. If anything, there are too many ideas floating around. Dan's always coming up with new stuff on the guitar. Eugene has set himself the goal of writing a song every thursday, with a two-hour deadline. Everything is going great so far. We'll keep you posted.
