The Last Place

Basically, just to cut to the chase, The Last Place is a one man band. That would be me, Zac Bates. I play all the instruments, and also produce and write all the songs. It's a mix of indie rock and electronica that I don't think many people have heard yet. I'm sure the appeal of TLP is quite limited to a small audience, but it wasn't my purpose to have a huge following of die-hard fans. I just want to enjoy writing music and have fun doing it. If you don't like me, I don't care. There are millions of other artists and their CDs for you to listen to. At the end of the day, all that matters is that The Last Place is still spinning in my CD player and I like what I hear. Ha... Thanks for reading
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I used to be in another band, but wanted to try new, more adventurous sounds. The Last Place sprang from that. I, Zac Bates, do everything. Writing, recording, production, mastering... You name it, I do it.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I used to play live in another band and loved it. The fact that this is a solo project and there is so much involved makes it hard to play live now.
Your musical influences
I love bands that are willing to try new things. At the Drive-In, The Mars Volta, Incubus, The Postal Service, Nine Inch Nails. These guys aren't afraid to push bounderies, and I hope to do that as well.
What equipment do you use?
Ah... Where to begin: Fender Stratocaster, Gibson Les Paul Studio and SG, Martin acoustics, Fender basses, Line 6 amps, Fender acoustic amps, FL Studio 6, Acid 3, and strange plug-ins on those pieces of software such as Beepmap to create weird soundscapes.
Anything else?
I hope no one gets too turned off from me prematurely. Just give it a listen and some time. I promise it will grow on you.
