the labors of sisyphus
my name is travis. i have an allergic reaction life. i write songs about it.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
it would be hard to compose an essay to convey the idea of heat while standing naked in an igloo. however, if one was to try, it would surely reek of an unparalleled and quite unfulfilled desire for the faintest touch of warm air. operating within a very similar set of circumstances and under the assumed name the labors of sisyphus, travis gerke composes songs offering a vain hope for wishes come true, storybook relationships, sunny days and happy endings; utilizing poignantly hearfelt lyrics over a backdrop of flawlessly orchestrated acoustic guitars and piano.
as a former member of the pop-punk band sloppy meateaters, travis was able to add a nation-spanning tour as well as performances on the usa network and the warped tour to his musical resume; however he has since opted to funnel all of his efforts into creating a musical statement more genuine and passionately indelible than previous endeavors - a feat that he has well-surpassed in the release of his debut full-length "a recurring theme of failure."
travis currently resides in gainesville, florida, and in between live performances can be found hard at work on his sophomore full-length, "two points, a cast, and the whore" due for release on january 27, 2004.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
there are shows. i never remember anything; or simply choose not to. at least i never make the same mistakes twice...
