Back in the beginning of 2002 Ty Stranglehold had a moment of clarity between endless bouts of beers and buffets. He realized that he was without a band to play in and had been for some time. He received a call from a promoter asking if his former band The Staggers was available for a show. He did something brash.
"No, but my new band The Hoosegow is!"
Ty didn't have a band, just an idea. He wanted to take "Skaterock" back from the chain wallet and soul patch sportin' jocks and bring it back to the punks who coined it all those years ago. With the show less than a month away, he needed a band.
Recruiting Jay on drums and Brian on bass, they needed to get some songs down but short a guitarist. Longtime friend and band slut Big Rick offered to help out and play the show. A set was written and the show was played within a month of forming.
The Hoosegow (the name taken from a Smut Peddlers' song) continued to build up steam and Rick decided to stay on as the band's full time guitarist. The same can't be said for bassist Brian. He and the band parted ways and cleared the way for longtime compatriot (and sometimes roommate) Glen Bitters.
With the line up solid, the band recorded their debut disc "The Last Buffet" at the legendary Rat's Nest studio. A cavalcade of shows followed for the next couple of years seeing the band playing with the likes of SNFU, Ripcordz, Death Sentence, Slaveco and many others.
Many changes have come about in the band most notably the departure of drummer Jay. The band is currently looking for a permanent replacement, but are still playing shows with selebrity fill-ins.
VIVA LA HOOSEGOW!!!Have you performed in front of an audience?Usually in the Victoria/Vancouver areas of British Columbia in Canada. Played in Las Vegas in January with great results.
