The Hollow (UK)

The Hollow have been described as purveyors of "soaring, timeless pop" in a recent interview on BBC online (www.bbc.co.uk/birmingham). Their eponymous debut EP, recorded in London recently, has already been attracting keen interest from record labels in the UK and the media (including an interview and regular air play on BBC Asian Network with a forthcoming 'Live Session'). The four-track EP reflects the band's diverse background and eclectic take on alternative pop/rock and resonates with influences ranging from The Jam to Kraftwerk! The band's main songwriter, Zaheer Kazmi, and fellow band-member and producer, Peter Duggal, are both British born Asians who have been working together ploughing their own musical furrow since leaving school in Birmingham(when 'Indie' was coming out of the long shadow of 80s obscurity into the full-on chart success of 'Madchester' and the rave generation). As 'Brit Asians', they represent pretty much a one-off rarity in light of the current burgeoning Asian music scene in the UK dominated by Bhangra, R&B and Hip-Hop influences (Raghev, Jay Sean). Joined on lead vocals by the strong and distinctive melodic tones of Gerald McGillian (also a former school friend), they have created what has been dubbed "an uplifting slice of breezy, psychedelia-tinged guitar pop, with echoes of REM, The Beach Boys and Teenage Fanclub."
