The French Babies

It's like drawing on your pants with music.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The French Babies are a band, kind of. They have a small album coming out soon. They're sorry they missed your Christmas party. They just wanna be friends. "It doesn't make sense if you say it out loud," says Matt. In 2003, fellow film students Matt and Jon began bangin' on stuff together. Borrowed instruments and improvised lyrics became the basis for songs about tuna and bugs. Their ragged recordings were like, "Hey, dig this one part. Now cover your ears. Oh well, we can always redo it sometime." A few friends joined in and the insta-rock ensemble was renamed The French Babies. They've has continued in starts 'n' fits to create simple song-alongs with healthy amounts of energy and indifference (and wicked tape hiss, am I right?). "BIG & small," says Jon. Recent baby activity includes a handful of recordings in Matt's basement and a afternoon-long play-day in Toledo which was recorded and edited into 17 minute mish-mash piece called "Bathtub Jazz." Their first for-real release is planned for July 2007 or thereabouts.
Your musical influences
Matt likes The Mummies. Jon likes Bis. Heather likes the Moldy Peaches. We all like each other.
What equipment do you use?
We play unplugged guitars (sometimes plugged in), snare -n- crash kit (w/ guitar case bass), tinky boards, sad tambourine, local pianos, the telephone and tapes of people screaming.
