The Dunes formed in March, 2002. Since the first gig on Halloween of 2002, The Dunes have played many shows. We started in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, at such venues as The Half Shell, D.C. Chase's, The Taphouse, and others. We've played in Washington, DC at Grog and Tankard, in Brooklyn, NY at Galapagos, in Charlottesville, VA at Starr Hill, Ferrum College's homecoming, art openings at the Rawls Museum, and several other spots and many parties from Maryland to Hatteras Village, NC. The band is a four piece, 2 guitars, bass drums, and everyone helps out with vocals. At live shows it's not unlikely that a guest MC will hop on the mic and spit some rhymes as well. Most would call their sound "alternative," though others have said more original things like "blue punk" and "trip garage," but they just prefer rock. They have composed more than thirty songs of original material, and throw in a couple covers like "No Woman No Cry" and "Hey Joe." The Dunes have been working on their first full-length album, a collection of distorted hits like "Check One" and "Punk Rock Love Song" to slower trips like "Fast Asleep". CD release party info will be coming soon.
Yes,,, many places, we always love it. Once we were kinda booked in the wrong type of setting. It was a really high dollar photo gallery presentation thing. We were sooooooo loud in that little place, but we made a couple fans, and sold a couple cds,,, so not so bad really, just funny and wierd.
The band is diverse in influences,, mostly 'cause we are diverse in actual age of band members 27-49,, Nirvana, Hendrix, the Dead, and many many countless others.
