Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Our band history is very limited because of my health challenges in the last few years. I (Roy Denton) am a rather prolific lyricist who has written over 1500 songs and on average writes ten new songs each month. I have also written a number of songs for . Roger Gemelle Denton also performs with Spiritual Journey. Roger had good success as a member of in the late 1960s. He also worked with for a few years.
Roger and I met when our daughters attended the same high school in Gig Harbor, Washington and sang in the school choir. Our great love of music helped Roger and I become the best of friends. I am originally from a small town, Paoli in the hills of beautiful Southern Indiana. Roger is from the Big Apple, New York City, New York. His two daughters have moved back to the city and are pursuing careers as singers.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We do not perform live at present, but will likely do limited performances when we complete the recording of more songs. Roger writes most of the music. I write the lyrics and have penned more than 1500 songs at present.
Roger is a consummate performer while I am a bit on the shy side. I do thoroughly enjoy both writing and singing songs.
One of our special moments was when "Paoli The Single" was introduced and dedicated to my favorite high school teacher, , affectionately known as Mrs. "U" at the 2004 in Paoli, Indiana. A second special moment was being interviewed by a regional newspaper and having an excellent written about us.
Your musical influences
I listen to a wide range of music, but do not care for hard metal or rock. I grew up in the 50's exposed to a vast array of country, gospel, pop, and rock and roll music. Elvis, Ricky Nelson, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, the Ventures, Hank Williams, Don Gibson, Pat Boone, the Statler Brothers, and Johnny Cash were among my many favorites. I love listening to a good ole acoustic guitar. My favorite acoustic guitar player was my Uncle Les Longest, especially when he played The Wildwood Flower.
What equipment do you use?
Roger plays keyboard as well as both electric and acoustic guitar. I strum a little guitar but am in the process of learning to play some keyboard with my 12 year old granddaughter, "Grampa's Girl"!
Anything else?
