The Dave Longfellow Ensemble
We are the DLE! We want to play the greatest Latin Jazz/Island Calypso in the world for you! The players are:
Dave Longfellow: Double Second Pans
James "Jim" Morford: Double Tenor Pans
Keith Moone: Triple Gutiar Pans and Percussion
John James: Drumset
Jon Cavendish: Electric Bass
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Our group formed three years ago. Dave asked me (Jon/Bass) if I would like to do some gigs over the summer of 2002 for a litle extra cash, and we hit it off. In the summer of 2003, we hired our current drumset player, John James. We also hired a different pannist by the name of James "Jim" Morford. This past summer, the latest addition to the band, steel pannist and percussionist Keith Moone was added, and really filled out the sound.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We play at bars all around Morgantown, and privately wherever will hire us.
Your musical influences
Some of what you expect. Caribbean calypso, afro-cuban, and latin jazz. That's not all, though. We are all fans of different things ranging from Miles and 'Trane all the way through Pearl Jam and Green Day...(ahh childhood memories coming back...)
What equipment do you use?
We use Mannette Steel Drums exclusively, hand crafted by the innovator of the steel drum, Ellie Mannette. All drums made in Granville, West Virginia. We also use Yamaha drumsets, Fender basses, and SWR amplification
