The Committee (Kankakee)
The COMMITTEE consists of five members. SMURF, NEZ, TOPS, DB and COCHISE. They originated out of Kankakee, IL. A small town less than a hour south of Chicago. Fighting their way through trials and tribulations, they manage to stay on top of their game.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
If the PERFECT-TONE family has learned nothing else, they’ve learned that ‘What doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger.’ Dealing with the temptations of the streets (and the consequences), trimming the group, and their own personal problems, the group has persevered. The most damaging blow was the loss of TONE (R.I.P). He was and still is a critical member of the group. The one that held the fam together. Unfortunately, it took such a tragedy, for every member to come together and put aside their personal problems.
With TONE’S passing the group became Focused and started the label PERFECT-TONE. Their second official album “GROWING PAINS”, was the first album to drop on the label. Due to the popularity of their first album “STREET VALEDICTORIANS”, this album was highly anticipated and sold out stores all over Kankakee.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We perform live when ever we get the chance. We have opened for the Nappy Roots, we hand a half-hour slot. We also have had many other different venues between Champaign(U of I) and Chicago.
Your musical influences
With "The Committe" you get a little bet of everybody. Smurf's favorite is 2pac, Nez's is Nas, Top's is Joe Budden, DB's is BIG, and Cochise's is Jay Z.

Overall, "The Committee" is the most complete, skilled, consistent group ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
