Inspired by (I guess the most needfull inspiration one can get) life itself, I feel the urge to do whatever I can do. If I feel in jazzy mood... then I might play jazz, if I'm into a rough mood, I'd rather play metal... but mostly I'd like to do some kind of ambient-songs when I'm working solo. I've discovered I can make a large and broad style when I start it all out with ambient. I play a lot of Metal (I play with a few bands... all do Metal alike), but when I am on my own, I'd like to make something that can put people at ease, or take them away from the real world for a while. That's also the reason why I do Soundtrack-sounding music... I give a sketch of the story, and you fill in the plot... that how I like to work the best.
Band/artist history
... June 1984... I was born to see the world, which I do like in many ways and do not like in other ways... Soon after my birth everybody knew I'd play music. I couldn't walk yet, but I was busy drumming on things allready. After a few toy-drums, my dad got a bit euhm... bored about getting me new toy-drums whole the time, so in 1987 he got me a real drum-kit. So I started to play the drums more and more, and started to listen to bands like U2, Falco, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath,... In 1990, my dad bought a keyboard, on which I started to play as well. This influenced my life a lot as well, when I came at some point of experimenting with 2 keyboards and recording-material... Life went on for a while... and I started to listen to more different music, such as Mike Oldfield, but as well for the (bit) harder stuff as Metallica, Nirvana, Kiss... which was more like a discovery-period. 1996... my first guitar/bass guitar fell into my hands... in the beginning it all sounded like junk, but... after a while, I discovered I could do much more with a guitar than just only making crappy noises. This was the year I was getting very interested in Metal-music. First Metalband I heard was Sepultura with their song "Roots Bloody Roots". Soon other bands joined my knowledge... such as Napalm Death, Channel Zero, Fear Factory... later on... Pantera came in... In 1997 I came on stage for the first time. I played some drumsolo at school. time went by... until in 1998 I started to record some stuff. I became a lot into mixing and experimenting on my own. 1999... the first band I played in... we didn't had a name yet... and were only with 2, but we made some great songs back then. end 1999/begin 2000, there were 2 projects I was in. One became with jamming for a free-podium for school (that got out of hand :-p), the other because of some add in a local paper (which gave me the opportunity to play in some cover-band, which thought I was too young). The two bands were called: Belayed Death and Hold My Own. Hold My Own recorded their first Demo in April 2000, which was a hit in the Underground-Scene. We made a second version of it containing 12 tracks (instead of 5), and was made to promote ourselfs for shows. In 2001 Hold My Own made a full-CD (12 tracks), which was never brought out in public. In December we even played in Germany next to the band Hard Resistance, which was a great experiance. From the ashes of Belayed Death, Devastator was born with a new singer, and a new line-up. 2002... A whole new year of possibilities... Gorlab (check them out at www.myspace.com/gorlabmetal) came inside my life, first as a singer, then as keyboardplayer and now (and that'll stay that way) as a drummer. In August/September 2002 Hold My Own made their (second) full CD, which was brought out in December 2002. Next to playing shows and stuff, "the Coeckey"-project moves on and on as well with recordings, which never got upon the soil of the earth... which I think it's a pitty... In 2003 Hold My Own said goodbye to me, and I was thrown out for some reasons that are still unknown to me... In 2004 I recorded a Demo with Devastator, which was called "100% Osschotse Boerecore" (6 tracks). Not only Devastator went for a Demo, Gorlab went for a Demo as well (with 4 tracks). Later that year I joined a new band called In Exile. Something experimental with electronical stuff and Metal. Graspop 2005, I was preselected to join a drumcontest. From the 5 preselected drummers I ended up as 3rd. At the end of 2005, I was thrown out/went away from Devastator because of some kind of a clash with the "new guitarist". 2006... A promosingle was recorded for In Exile, and played at Pragatown, Herselt. Praga Khan was the headliner. Went with the band "Aegrimonia", which was in need for a new guitarist. And won a drumcontest in Herenthout (1st out of 4 drummers). 2007 started out to be a great year. Gorlab will hit the studio's and record some new stuff. They'll also get the chance to defend theirselves at the preselections for Pragatown 2007 (in which I've played last year with In Exile)... Gorlab has also the ability to play at some tour they're planning together with 4 other Brother-bands, called New Blood Alliance... August 2007... Since Maarten didn't want to go on with Aegrimonia, we desided to leave this project as it is... and maybe... some day we'll be putting it back together again with some new idea's. December 2007... Sara and Jef are going to leave Gorlab. Gorlab is in search for some replacement from that moment. And soon after that... some answers are been found. Gorlab is trying out with Sofie and Steven to be new potential members of the band. In march 2008, Daisy and Kevin from Shades of Anger asked me if I was interested to play in their band. And here we go :-p... Sepp is from now on member of the band "Shades of Anger". April 2008... I met one of my new Influences... and started to date with Kathleen, my Girlfriend, on the 18th of April... May 2008, it was all comming... the death of Gorlab as well as the death of In Exile... Gorlab's death was caused by the absence of musical members. In Exile's split was caused by problems within the band. At the end of July 2008, some changes were made in my life: A new band was there... Grimlock. Together with my friends from Devastator I desided to get back the feeling and the great stuff we've had before... Nicholas quited Shades Of Anger... August 2008, the first show of Grimlock was a blast. And after a while, Steve decided to leave Shades Of Anger as well... October 2008, I'm no longer a session-musician of Kludde... I'm going to spend the free time I've gained now at something else: from now on I'll be playing the drums FULL TIME at Kludde!!! January 2009... GREAT NEWS!!! Kathleen is pregnant... June 2009... Shades of Anger (which changed name to Shade Of Madness) decided to quite the project. A few days later I received a mail from the Fallout. At first I didn't know too well what I should do, but in the end I thought "what the Hell... I've got some free time to spend now..." and I accepted to join The Fallout. In August 2009 my sweet beloved Kathleen gave birth to my little Girl. We called her Darrellynn (after Darrell Lance Abbott). The tour of Moreese.com started in November 2009... 13 shows would follow up this one... the tour ended at march 2010... we had a lot of fun at this tour, which was my debut as a session-drummer for the famouse Praga Khan. Two shows for Praga Khan in August 2010!!! One of the projects I've been looking up to gives me the chance to play the drums for them. 4 years ago I was in the pre-programme wishing I could ever be on stage with a project as big as Praga Khan... ... and my life ain't over yet!!!!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Didn't do anything of my soloproject live yet... but I can hope there'll be a day I can afford to hire some musicians to play my stuff along with me :D.
