The Christopher Knowles Project

The Christopher Knowles Project Thunder Bay, Ontario email: knowlesc@tbaytel.net Thunder Bay, Ontario hard rock powerhouse The Christopher Knowles Project has posted their brand new single online titled "Nothing Left To Hide". The crushing song appears on the just released new album "The Cure For Insanity". The follow-up to the band's 2006 release "Devil In The Detail", "The Cure For Insanity" delivers a massive wallop of scorched-out rock. The cd exhibits the sound of a band injecting a slammin' groove into its wide musical palette. The music dovetails its blend of raw-power, tripped out rock and cascading guitars on songs like "Whose Side Are You On Anyway" and the crunching "Inmates Are Taking Over", with the more deliberate side of the band emerging in the bruising "Walking On Broken Glass" and the slow-boil of "Halo's Dropping Like Flies". Christopher is an award winning songwriter/multi instrumentalist and producer playing well over 500 gigs across Canada in the bands Rival, Stiff Upper Lip, Zero Gravity and Hunter. A recent gig at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium was a particular career highlight. The bands 4th CD titled "Devil In the Detail" was released in Dec. 2006. The album is littered with layers of heavy guitars and strings providing a variety of ear candy under a blanket of strong songwriting and musicianship. Our song "Elvis Has Left the Building" from the band's 3rd cd "Rhyme of the Century" recently placed Top Ten in the SongPrize International songwriting competition and the band has songs in the 2006 award winning movie "Chasing Mascots" and the title track in the 2007 movie "G8". The Sand Jam (A True Story) In the summer of 1984 my band Rival played at a Thunder Bay festival featuring all local bands called The Sand Jam. Roadhouse was the headliner while Rival played earlier in the afternoon, I was still the band's roadie at this point. There was a good crowd and the band played a great show. Then the real party started featuring pot, booze and acid. Around 6pm the police suddenly showed up saying the concert was over due to the several complaints they were getting and that everyone would have to leave. A police car drove right onto the grounds and 2 cops got out telling us the party was over. This news didn't go over well with the very messed up crowd and soon the cops retreated to the gates to speak with the promoter, leaving their car behind. Not a good plan. I watched in sheer amazement as the crowd started to gather around the abandoned police cruiser. Things started slowly getting out of hand as the crowd grew more frenzied with each passing minute. A few people started kicking at the car while someone else smashed a beer bottle into it. This quickly led to people rocking the vehicle back and forth and I started freakin' out watching all this unfold. Soon a lot more of the riled up crowd joined in and they actually managed to roll the police car completely over. I could not believe this was happening. The crowd went berserk and someone set the car on fire. People started dancing around it like a giant bonfire and soon people were sacrificing clothes to the fire elisiting cheers each time more fuel was thrown onto the now blazing cop car. Firetrucks arrived but they couldn't get past the gate's as it was now a full blown riot with bottles sailing through the air like missiles. Everyone acted half crazed as people tend to do during a riot. This madness went on through the night. My car was parked backstage and at some point I got in and fell asleep. Early in the morning I awoke to the sound of loud rapping on my driver side window. I groggily looked out and saw cops in full riot gear surrounding the car. For some reason they did not look happy. Then I thought "Oh yeah, they are probably mad about the whole burnt cop car and riot thing." John Gould, our sound man; was passed out in the seat next to me. I woke him up and we very tentatively got out of the car hoping not to get our heads busted by these cops. They questioned us, told us to pack up our equipment and get the hell out of there. We didn't argue. On our way out we passed the charred remains of the cop car as well as several people being fined or arrested. Somehow we managed to escape all this and found our way back into the city safe and sound. The next day this little riot was on the national news. Christopher Knowles
