Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The Capitals are a band consisting of four multi-talented young musicians from Rochester, NY. Lead singer, Nick Zamniak, and lead guitarist, John Pritchard have been writing songs together for over a decade now and have developed a very unique and mature approach to song writing. With the support of Alex Feig's unorthodox drumming techniques and Pete Zamniak's thick bass grooves the Capitals are a force to be reckoned with. Their sound is diverse, yet completely their own. It is a sound that is derived from a wide range of influences, anything from The Beatles to the 70's funk grooves to the modern day NYC sound of The Strokes.
Nick, Pete, and John have been permanent members of the band since 1994 when they recorded their first demo. The boys later had their first encounter in a professional studio atmosphere when they were invited by industry producer, Jeff Glixman (Kansas, Black Sabbath), to record at Angel Mountain Studios in Bethlehem, PA (2003).The chance to work with such an experienced producer helped to polish the Capitals' sound and greatly improve their work ethic.
After losing their original drummer, the Capitals were determined to keep moving on. Long time friend Alex Feig, who had never played drums before, was asked to fill in. After about six months of practicing, Alex proved to be a good choice. Like the other self taught musicians in the band, he excelled at his new instrument. Since the new addition the Capitals have played everything from festivals such as Thirsty Melon in Louisville, KY, to basement shows in Buffalo, NY. The band relocated from its hometown of Medina, to Rochester, NY, for the opportunity to get more gigs and network with more musicians like themselves.
The boys are now working with Robert Blackburn of Blackdog Records, and with agent Brendan Rooney. They hope to make a name for themselves in Rochester while continuing to gain exposure across the nation by playing festivals and hitting the road in their reliable "band van".
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes we play live as much as possible, usually in the upstate New York area, however we have played as far away as Kentucky. The show in Kentucky was a festival, very fun.
