The Black Reality
Simply put, I'm a producer that goes by the name of Black Real. I'm mostly a sample-based producer though I do make original compositions from time to time. I've made over 110 beats, and now that I've established my skill as a producer, I have began to dabble in music theory and drumming in order to enhance my personal understanding of music.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I started making beats with a friend in high school, but after a while, I simply strayed off to do my own thing. He still does his thing when he has time (it's not his life like it is mine), and there's no doubt that we still put it down when needed.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I do not play live.
Your musical influences
When it comes to old school artists, I'm influenced by people like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, and other, soul people. When it comes to new school artists, I'm influenced by hip-hop artists such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Nas. I'm influenced by rock acts such as The White Stripes and the Cold War Kids. Since I started making beats, I've come across a lot of music and I've grown tolerant of many different forms. I even have some favorite songs by Alison Krauss and Harry Chapin.
What equipment do you use?
Right now, I've been using Cool Edit Pro. to chop up my samples and Fruity Loops to lay down the track. I've recently found another aspiring artist that has given me access (after prompt payment nonetheless) to much more equipment including a professional microphone, drum set, guitars, and an 88-key MIDI keyboard.
