The BarroWites are made up of Nick Hawley on Vocals and Guitar, Kiyoshi Sugai on Bass, and Peter Saint on Guitar and Backup Vocals. We are currently searching for a new drummer.Band/artist history
Back in the summer of 2001, Nick Hawley-Gamer purchased his first guitar at the local Lights Music Center with the idea of starting a rock band with his friend Kiyoshi Sugai-Fernandez. It was a white Fender Squire and it cost $130, complete with a sixty-watt amp, strap and soft case. It was a rent to own deal. That summer Nick started guitar lessons with one of the pros at Lights named Chris. Nick's friend Peter St. George decided to pick up guitar after seeing Nick's new Squire at Nick's 13th birthday. Peter then joined Nick in taking double lessons at Lights. They were both facinated with their guitars and quickly became hooked.
Early that Fall, Kiyoshi finally got his first bass, which was a black Fender Squire at the same place for the same deal as Nick and Peter got. Kiyoshi started taking lessons from a guy by the name of Jeff, who was in a Rock 'N' Roll band with family friends. Kiyoshi played his bass as if it were his girlfriend.
Nick and Kiyoshi started jamming together and with friends in the Fall. They covered songs and played at parties and for family and friends whenever they could. Usually they'd get 4 to 25 people to watch them play. They called themselves "Green House Efekt".
After a long fall and winter of jamming and practicing with "GHE", the band gradually fell apart and everyone focused on developing their personal skills. That spring Nick and Peter dropped guitar lessons.
Sounds pretty bad, but Kiyoshi and Nick had decided to start a three piece band called "The BarroWites." They would practice with their neighbor Tyler Brown whenever they had new material or in preperation for a show. That summer Kiyoshi and Nick practiced whenever they could.
That Fall The BarroWites raised $200 and decided to record a demo c.d. to try to get a gig. They recorded at Pacific Quest Studios. The finished product was a four-song demo titled "Kick It 'N' Go", because of the numerous yells of those phrases in each song.
After jamming with Peter for about a month, twice a week in October 2003, Nick and Kiyoshi announced to Peter that he was in the band.
TBW then looked for a drummer, as Tyler was a Senior. After seeing Luke in Drama, Nick approached him and told him that we would like to jam with him. We did, and he is now our drummer.
About the middle of January '04, TBW got news that Luke was shipped to an Eastern Oregon boarding school. He was never to be heard of again, and TBW continue their quest for a new drummer.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes, playing live is the ultimate high, it's the way to get exposed.
