Hi! We are The Automatics and we are Pinoy!
Band/artist history
The Automatics take their cue from past post-punk and garage-rock masters like Gang of Four, Joy Division, and Blondie and revivalists like The Killers and Interpol, but nevertheless they give a defiant nod to OPM legends like Juan dela Cruz and Hotdog. Formed in the last quarter of 2005, Lloyd Catral (drums), JP Balboa (bass), Heidi Pascual (keyboards and synth), Alex Paita (guitars), and Aan Santos (vocals) say yes to almost every gig there is, as much as their day jobs and school would allowhence the name. This has landed them gigs at venues like Café saGuijo, Gweilos Eastwood, Center for Arts, Kolumn Bar, THX Premiere Cinema, Purple Haze, Bistro 110, Motorsports Alley, “Batcave” Malate, among others. Their mantra: “If it’s unstoppable, it must be Automatic!”
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes. We've played at Café saGuijo, Gweilos Eastwood, Center for Arts, Kolumn Bar, THX Premiere Cinema, Purple Haze, Bistro 110, Motorsports Alley, “Batcave” Malate, among others. Every gig is a special moment.
Your musical influences
Gang of Four, Joy Division, Blondie, The Clash, The Killers, The Strokes, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs
What equipment do you use?
Heidi the keyboardist has quite good equipment - A Korg N264 and a Yamaha Loco analog synth. JP the bassist has been dumped by potential groupies for his Les Paul bass. Alex has the crappiest stuff, and for his own protection we'd rather keep them unnamed. At least the attention goes to him rather than his guitar.
Anything else?
Nothing much really!
