The 666
The 666 is a Swedish gothic metal band founded in 1996 in Uppsala. Initially consisting of four members, it has now grown to six, and together with Children of the Night and Firewalker form the so-called 'Triple Alliance', which is now well-known throughout the Swedish metal and rock underground. The 666 have created sixteen full-length albums and a number of single editions, which have rocked the Swedish gothic scene for the last decade.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
12.October
At long last, The 666 are ready for the official presentation of their 16th full-length album. The final chords have been put to 'Ragnarok: The Last Crusade' and it is ready to be released on Halloween night in the Uppsala University hall.
Again enjoying the support of the Gothenburg Symphonic Orchestra, keyboardist Jan Einar Kvarme and bassist Ted Kelton Agasson and the haunting griffs of Jorg Nykvist, RAGNAROK is as innocuous and restrained as it is hypnotic, the band sounding surprisingly controlled, keeping the music as simple as possible. The centerpiece of Ragnarok: The Last Crusade has the band in peak form.
The band continues to stretch out on the album; Lars Andersson handles the lead vocals on the mellow tracks, and the record concludes with the 7-piece instrumental mega-symphony 'Ragnarok', featuring the story of the beginning and the end of the world according to the Norse mythology, anchored by a terrific piano performance by Kvarme and Anna Soderstrom and supernatural drums from Eirik Salstrom. With Ragnarok: The Last Crusade, The666 show that their last album was only the beginning, as the band takes the sound established on that record and builds on it even more, with often enthralling results.
