Tha Scholars
Lee Steven was captivated by hip-hop beginning in 1997. Steven was intrigued by the classic hip-hop music of Nas, Biggie, Tupac, and Wu-Tang at the time. This in turn made him pick up a pen and write. The competition from local MC's further increased the hunger within him. At this time Cata was beginning to understand what hip-hop really was. The major influence of his writing took place within high school. Rival classmates tried to test his skill with numerous battles and cyphers. But this only further improved and sharped his talent. At a local battle the top MC at the time questioned anyone to battle him. Cata stepped up to the challenge and humiliated him. At the time Lee Steven watched with interest, eager to spit himself. After Cata's battle, the MC's partner wanted to save their title. Then Lee Steven stepped through the crowd, and commenced with lyrical fire. From that day on a partnership was born.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Tha Scholars have performed at Hip-Hop/Poetry spots throughout Baltimore and surrounding cities. Either they are prevailing on Morgan State University's 88.9, "Striictly Hip-Hop" or publications in college newspapers. Even flooding the streets with their own Mix CDs, Tha Scholars make their presence known where ever they appear. By attending workshops/ conventions they have furthered their knowledge of the industry, and prepared themselves for the next level. Tha Scholars are ready for the center stage, with performances at "The Music Idol Convention" as an example. Their goal is to open and touch markets never explored by any hip-hop artist. Tha Scholars want to collaborate with Rock, Soul, and Spoken Word Poetry. Their versatility as artists have no boundaries or limitations. Their innovative material has been shopped around to many major labels. But they are still anxious for the best deal to arise. The return of real music is slowing coming, and it will start with them. Tha Scholars are ready for the world, but is the world ready for them??
