Tears Of Sirion

Tears of Sirion is the latest incarnation of music written, performed and produced by me. Eventually I would like to gather others around me and form a "real band", but I'm a mommy, so it's hard to find the time to coerce others onto the acoustic riot girl train. All records released from this "project studio" will be under Acoustic Riot Records, which isn't "taken" either from my research. I'd make a time line, but dates are not one of the things my memory likes, so I'll go general here:

I think the first time I was ever recorded was in 1999. It's a pretty foggy year for me, but it's hard to forget using a vacuum cleaner for a mike stand. Aforementioned buddy Pete recorded Ordinary-one of my own, the first actually, and Ghost in You-a cover of Counting Crows covering the Psychedelic Furs. It was in Katie's living room-yep, same Katie, they have a baby now, Hunter Jackson, he's cool. I had some stuff go on, wrote most of my early stuff trolling around the hotel me, my bro, and my dad were staying in at the time-but that's another story. Then I moved back to Perry Hall, Pete and Katie moved into their townhouse in Fells Point, and the time of Penny Dreadful began.

I was pregnant with my lovely Odin at this time, and staying away from his alcoholic father as much as possible. I spent most of my week down their place, playing w/Pete with Katie singing backup, coming back to my crap hole in Dunfield as little as possible. This continued till I couldn't really play anymore, the 8th month of pregnancy as I recall. After I got somewhat settled in my life as a mommy, and had recruited Eric Hughes to play bass, we really went at it as a band. Played a couple shows at the Brass Monkey then broke up due to differences, aka as life. There's an EP somewhere, I'm sure Pete has it.

Eric and I meandered around the musical world, playing with this dude from Illinois for awhile named Seth, trying to figure out how to record. I started dating a 36 year old yuppie, and we gradually stopped hanging out to play. Check out http://www.myspace.com/solarcomplex for examples of Mr. Hughes' phenomenal bass skills.

I've been playing by myself ever since, occasionally with Pete and Katie, sometimes w/my fiancee. There's about 80 songs in the Tears of Sirion catalog, and I finally have the means to start recording them all. Well, at least the ones I like. I decided on the name in January of this year, and started recording and uploading to Myspace about the same time.

I've played live at a few open mikes, most notably w/Shodekeh, a Baltimore beatboxer, at Xando's-thanks Kat for the good times. I was also playing pretty regularly at the open mike hosted by Ernie Fowler at An Poitin Stil in Timonium, MD. Various live shows with my buds Pete and Katie, w/various band names, come to mind. As of now, I haven't played out for about a year, and it makes me sad. Hard to do when I have a job and a young son I'm homeschooling, but I'll work it out and let you know. I'd like to go back to playing open mikes on Mondays at An Poitin Stil or the 8X10 in Federal Hill.

I've been described as acoustic riot girl by Eric Hughes, and it's stuck ever since. I like it, it fits. As to bands, Counting Crows, Smashing Pumpkins, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Black Crowes, Black Sabbath, the Beatles, John Mayer, Genesis, 80's hair bands, Bon Jovi, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Dave Matthews, Coldplay, STP, Mettalica, Guns and Roses, Candlebox, Radiohead...there's more, but do you really need to know everything I listen to? A girl's gotta have SOME secrets ;)
