What's up, everyone? My start in the rap game was kind of a joke. My friends and I were sitting around making "dope beats" with ACID Pro 4.0 and layin' down some fake gangsta raps over them. It was here that I noticed that while I wasn't all that great, I still had a lot more talent on the mic than my other friends. So, I just started doin' my own little rap thing during my spare time. In the beggining, I went by the name of Antwon (God only knows why) and made a solo album full of other rapper's beats and my crappy freestyling. After taking a long look at that album, I realized how much I sucked and decided to move on.
I got back into rapping about half a year later after discovering a website on how to make beats. There were tutorials, programs, and tons of free beats. So I changed my rap name to Thuggy D and started rapping again. My material was getting a lot better, but I still felt like something was missing. I felt like my sound was too generic.
That's when I started the Pine Forest Playaz. I came up with two fake rap names based on a cartoon picture I found online. CJ Squirrel and Biznack Da Beaver were born, and the first PFP album, "Rappin' 4 Da Kidz" was quickly released. It had a lot of positive messages on it, and while there was swearing, it could still have been geared towards a child audience. And that's what I loved about it. Teens would like it because it was funny, and kids would get the message.
Currently, I'm working on a new project with my new rap name, Sykosis. My style is more horrorcore based now, and I spit some darker rhymes this time around.Have you performed in front of an audience?Haven't played live yet, but I'd love to. I can only imagine rocking a crowd with my mask and all that. I probably need to tighten my style a bit more before I even consider playing live, though.
Your musical influences
I'm a big fan of the messages and music of Psychopathic Records. Their music really speaks to me, and it made me see the world for what it really is. My biggest influences would probably be Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid, Dark Lotus, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Anybody Killa, and Esham. I'm also into stuff by MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice. Other rap-based influences would be Bone Thugs, Dinerologic, Playaz Lounge Crew, MC Chris, Mindless Self Indulgence, Kottonmouth Kings, and Tech N9ne.What equipment do you use?
I use ACID Pro 4.0 to loop beats and record my raps.
I sometimes use Fruity Loops to make some beats.
All vocal recording is done using a crappy $10 mic I got from some run-down computer store outside of town.Anything else?
I'm trying to get a label started. There's already a few artists on it, mostly made up of my friends. If you're in the Maumee/Toledo area, check out our website at www.freewebs.com/tapoffrecordz
