SXX is a rock power trio from Battle Creek, Michigan.
SXX has been fortunate to have the opportunity to record music and stay active as a live act. The Battle Creek, Michigan based rock-power-trio incorporates elements of funk and jazz with metal and classic rock.
The first incarnation of the band was formed in August 1999, then known as Bad Oscar. For the next four years they would perform at rock clubs, backyard parties, summer festivals, and benefit gigs. Also during this time the band managed to independently release two CD’s, and also recorded a song for the Robert Plant Tribute titled “Plant Waves”, where proceeds went to the ABC Trust Fund benefiting impoverished children in Brazil.
In 2003, it was time to clean house and take the band’s music and performance up a notch. Renaming themselves SXX, Richard (lead vocals, bass guitar), Phil (electric guitar, vocals), and Shawn (drums, vocals) began writing and made a commitment to play their own music live. Cover songs weren’t out of the question, however SXX wanted to move away from the “3-set” scene and concentrate on playing places that showcased original material.
In early 2004, SXX entered the studio to record their debut 5 song EP titled “Big Tips And Hats”. When released later that August, the band launched a series of concert dates while the disc drew acclaim from fans and critics alike. The CD captured the essential elements of the band, and served as a preview of what’s to come. Also that year SXX co-founded the Triple Threat Concert Series and went out with Gabriel Burns and Sonakofa for several dates cumulating in a three-band CD release show broadcasted live on the Internet.
2005 has the band taking every good opportunity to perform live and broaden their audience. The new songs rock, and are a testament to the raw power the band gives on stage. Catch them live, and see for yourself the energetic rock show delivered by SXX.
