Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Sweet Sue and Her Sweethearts has been performing since 1994. It was founded by Susan Scherman who spent several years travelling and working with some of the most celebrated jazz and swing artists of the age- Lionell Hampton, Xavier Cugat and others. Susan has always used the best of the best in the music industries. Her musicians have performed on Broadway, clubs and on recordings with such entertainers as Liza Minelli, Frank Sinatra, Tito Puente and many others.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We are located in New York City and New Jersey. You can't beat this area as EVERYTHING is here- Especially in the entertainment industry! But that doesn't mean we don't travel for gigs. We do indeed! One of our favorite moments was performing at the World Famous Rainbow Room. What a lovely spot and a perfect match for what we perform.
Your musical influences
There are so many influences- as there were so many great song writers and orchestras from that classic age in music. I think Paul Whiteman, Ina Rae Hutton (like Sweet Sue, one of the few women in history to lead a professional big bands), Xavier Cugat (we perform many classic latin numbers), Isham Jones and many more- we can't help be influenced by the greats!
What equipment do you use?
Aside from a few amps and music stands, the equipment we use is virtually our musicians, their instruments and our singers - plus a vintage microphone! We don't need complicated, high tech equipment for our gigs.
Anything else?
Sweet Sue and Her Sweethearts are available for any kind of party, celebration, function- from weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, New Years Eve, Bar/bat Mitzvahs, Coporate events- you name it and we're there. Please contact us for more information or to receive press material.
