Suzanne Smith
Suzanne Smith is a singer/songwriter based in New York City. She started writing and recording songs while living in Washington, DC and within one week of sending out her first demo tape, Eddie O'Loughlin, President of Next Plateau/Polygram (and the man behind such acts such as Salt N' Pepa, Sybil and Boy Krazy) signed her to a recording deal. Within weeks she was recording her debut album, RadioVenus in a New York City studio. Ten days before her debut album was to be released, Next Plateau and Polygram Records ended their partnership. In 1997 Next Plateau formed a new partnership with Roadrunner/Sony and by early March her first single "Set It Off" was released. Sean Ross, Editor of Billboard's Airplay Monitor, suggested to Suzanne that she do an alternative pop/rock version of the 1980's club hit and the label loved the idea. The single became an instant favorite with DJs and was played on mixshows across the country but failed to take off at radio. At the end of 1997 Next Plateau and Roadrunner ended their partnership. Since this time Suzanne has been writing songs with acclaimed NYC producer/songwriters Jimmy Greco (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Celine Dion, Coco Lee), Sandy Fredrickson (Leann Rhimes, Brenda K. Star), Kit Hain (Selena, Fleetwood Mac, Roger Daltrey, Cher, Peter Cetera), Vinny Vero, Sarah Hudson, Dibs (Jennifer Lopez, Corey Hart, Luxx), Peter Bliss (Barbara Streisand, N'Sync), Indie rocker Kevin Salem, and John Robie (C-Bank, Afrika Bambaata, New Order). Recently, Suzanne has been traveling frequently to London to write with the multiplatinum English duo "The Echobeatz" (producers of the WorldCup drum n' bass song "Mas Que Nada") and 80's superstar Rick Astley. One of Suzanne's songs is currently on hold with a top 5 boy band in the United States and another song on Laya's upcoming record (Universal/France).
