My name is Susmit Limaye. I'm a freelance composer from Nagpur city, Maharashtra, India. I'm mainly into film and TV scoring and also have an interest in music and record production. I have scored a number of documentaries and short films. Recently, I scored a short film called "Kalakaar" that was acclaimed at many national and international film festivals.
Band/artist history
I was playing keyboards since when I was quite little, and then slowly my interest turned to composition. The 2 major turning points in my life were when I first saw the film Jurassic Park which had music by the great John Williams and then I heard the soundtrack of Roja which was A.R. Rahman's first film, and I was hooked. From that moment I decided I wanted to do music. I appeared for the Solo Piano exams of the Trinity College of Music, London and passed Grade 5 in the practicals and Grade 7 in theory.I did my first short film in 2001 called "Parichay" and from then on I've been composing music for other short films most recently for "Kalakaar".
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I'm most comfortable in recording situations.
Your musical influences
The legendary film composer John Williams and the acclaimed genius A.R. Rahman are my foremost musical heroes. Apart from them I admire the music of other great film composers like Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, Vangelis, David Arnold, Howard Shore, Mark Isham, Danny Elfman and the like. Other artists I admire are Yanni, Kenny G, Scott Wilkie, Gregg Karukas, Vishal Bharadwaj, Enigma and Michael Jackson.
What equipment do you use?
I use Cubase SX and Reason for sequencing and plug-ins like Stylus RMX for rhythm programming, plus my Roland XP30 for sounds and as a controller.
