Sure Shot (US)

Determined to surpass all labels, a fresh new collaboration of Connecticut natives, Sure Shot is certain to attract attention from discerning ears hungry for a unique sound that cannot be found flipping through radio stations. Their distinctive vibe, formed by influences of musical geniuses of past generations combined with some of the latest unorthodox inspirations, give rise to their vision of an urban underground music future.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
C-Boogie had the chance in 1995 at the University Of Connecticut to open up for Digable Planets. From there his career as a hip-hop artist started with a group named Three-Fold. After the group Three-Fold broke up for various reasons, in 1999 C-boogie Joined a group called TriStateOfMind. It consisted of AM Sunshine, Regg Lo, and C-Boogie. The trio began putting hard work into making demos and working the local club scene. In September of 2001, TriStateOfMind opened up for groups like Gargantua Soul at Toads Place in New Haven, Ct. In the same year they also performed at a Lyricist Lounge, a concert for up - and - coming artists at the Nuyorican Soul Café in Brooklyn, NY. In December of 2001 the group performed at Nkiru Center, ran and owned by Black Star ( Mos Def & Talib Kweli),& Soul Café in mid town Manhattan,Ny.) in 2002. TriStateOfMind were invited to perform at the Monthly Asian Entertainment Night at the BAGGOT INN in Downtown Manhattan, And was called back for an encore show the next month.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes we do play like, mostly in the ct, ny, nj tri state area... its the best experience we have to offer. a lot of cats are feeling us because we have "The Roots" appeal bringing a band to the stage instead of just a dj and emcee... not that something is wrong with that because that's the essence and when we can't use the band, its me and dj segue... two turntables and a mic, one phat emcee on the set! the best so far was this spot in the village in nyc. the baggot inn. my crew felt the energy between ourselves, and then the crowd responded with that same vibe...one of our livest crowds yet! and seeing someone out there singing your lyrics is the illest feelings of all!!!!!!!
Your musical influences
When asked to describe his music, C-Boogie, known for his dynamic stage energy and thought provoking lyrics replied, dont think of it as music, think of it as art. It takes whatever form its creator is feeling at the moment. Lyrically, C-Boogie lists his top personal inspirations as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Common and The Roots. Artists that motivate Segue into creating that Sure Shot sound range from classic Pete Rock, Soulive, (the ultimate trio whom I just had the honor to meet), and ?uest Love of The Roots, to legends like, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Earl Klugh.
