Hey, this is the music page of the Christian band Submerged. Currently I (Alex) am the only member. Most of my songs are just me singing with my acoustic guitars, but I do write a few on the piano now and then. If I had to classify the music, I would probably call it emo. Christian emo - sounds like an oxymoron, right? But really, all Emo means is that it's emotional. Doesn't have to be overly depressing, right?
Band/artist history
When I was 11 or so I started writing poetry as a form of expression. Most of it was stuff like Linkin Park - hurt by others, and not ready to open up myself. Coupled with that was this crushing feeling that I was missing something in life - I was "Christian" at the time, but not really following it. The song "Something More" come about when I was 13 or 14. Most of the other songs have been written in the past year or two. I was lucky enough to join a new church in my sophmore year of high school, and in the years since they have really helped me to break out of myself and grow spiritually. My songs are a mix of regret, empathy, and worship. My main goal with songs is to make them mean something to others, where the lyrics themselves could work in peoples lives without even the music to back it up.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Right now, we don't. With school and work we have no time for shows. Come summer we are hoping to do a few little gigs just for the experience of it all though.
Your musical influences
I enjoy a pretty large variety of music. Some heavy stuff like Emery and Underoath, some emo like Dashboard Confessional and Thursday, some priase and worship like David Crowder and Kutless, some alt rock like Lifehouse and Thousand Foot Krutch, even some punk with Relient K. My style come off a lot of these, even though I use an acoustic.
What equipment do you use?
As of right now, I have 3 "good" guitars, all Alvarez: A FD60, a MF80C, and a MD200C. Also a cheap Casio keyboard, and an even cheaper mic. I also play drums, but don't have a method to record them yet.
Anything else?
Let me know if you like the music - you are all I'm here for in the first place. I would love to hear some kind of feedback on what you think.
