style arose from the ashes of Miles Standish, a 3 piece rock band whose members hailed from Plymouth, NH. Miles Standish existed from 1997-2001 and gigged in and around Durham, NH. 5 years later, and without a new band, Drew, guitarist, singer, and songwriter for Miles Standish decided to record his music under the name style, playing all of the instruments and arranging the music and recording it himself. The influences on the music range from the classic rock of giants such as the Beatles, Hendrix, Cream, The Who, and Led Zeppelin to more modern bands including the British bands of the 1980s and 1990s that Drew loves, such as Blur, Suede, Mansun, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, R.E.M., Husker Du, and Manic Street Preachers, to name but a few. Relax, sit back, and listen to music that has a heart, a mind, and ROCKS!
As stated above, style was born in Feb. 2006 in response to the RPM Challenge (www.rpmchallenge.com). It was a way for me to get back into recording music that I'd written in the 5 years since my band broke up.
If style were able to recruit a bass player, drummer, and perhaps keyboard player, the band would potentially play live, but as of now, this is strictly a studio project.
I'm into rock music, intelligent music and lyrics that still also simply rock and make you want to move and get into the visceral energy of it all. My classic influences are bands such as The Beatles, Hendrix, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Rush, the Kinks, the Rolling Stones. The more modern bands who heavily influence me include Blur, R.E.M., Suede, Mansun, Manic Street Preachers, the Smiths, the Stone Roses, Husker Du, Trail of Dead, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, Muse, the Charlatans, and the Bluetones, to name but some of them.
I believe in carefully crafted pop songs. I believe in the lost art of the guitar solo. I believe in improvisation. I believe in concept pieces and song suites. I believe rock can be intelligent and visceral at the same time.
Epiphone and Rickenbacker guitars, Vox amps, pedals by MXR, Dunlop, Ibanez, and Vox. Basses by Rickenbacker and Fender. Drums by me.
