Straw Dogs(UK)
We are the Shrewsbury based band the Straw Dogs, and we like nothing more than just jamming together. Our main influences are from Metallica Aerosmith and Pantera. We have a few songs going and have done a few local performances in the Shrewsbury area.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
History:
i think that i owe a lot to my friends in Manchester as they were always there for me and gave me constant support and encouragement. So thanks to Jake Fuller, Mark Townsend, Tom Whalley and Ric Threlfall. these guys were in the first band i was in and the re-named version of the band.
after moving from manchester to shrewsbury i got involved with a local bassist who i enjoyed jamming with. he and i then got together with a drummer and began jamming. we started off with some covers and a gripping version of Voodoo Chile. i enjoyed these jam practices as it gave me the chance to experiment with new ideas. so thank you to Tom Humphreys and Robert Perry.
we later joined up with a singer and formed the band Relapse. we wrote a few songs together and performed a few shows but when it came to performing a 1hr set the singer bailed on us thus leaving us to drastically change our set to mostly instrumentals which we managed to put on a good show by playing Voodoo Chile, Purple Haze, 20th Century boy, layla and walk this way.
after this we recruited a new singer we got some rehearsal rooms together and started jamming however this did not last long and we split. i continued to jam with the bassist and we found another singer who we enjoyed writing withbut lack of commitment from both sides forced us to dissolve.
then along came a guitarist friend , ashley, who wondered if i was interested in performing in a charity concert with him and his band and i agreed. we performed a cover of sweet home alabama and past became present.
so thanks to:
jimi hendrix, aerosmith, metallica,
jake, tom, sparky, ric, haz, pez and his amazing talent,
hindson, phil, tetley, john, tony, lee,
and ashley.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We have done only do one major performance to raise money for charity where we played "sweet home alabama" and we decided to be a band.
