Story behind the song
I was asked by a young Korean student at University of Texas, Austin, named Hae Soo, to write a Texas song about and Asian woman. She had no problem with all these songs about pretty Mexican Senoritas, but really wanted aomething about an Asian Girl. I gave her a first draft in about 12 hours.
Lyrics
Asian Cowgirl © 2008 Wild Bill Austin V 1 Her mama came from Hong Kong--her daddy from Kow Loon. They met at Ellis Island, and they got hitched real soon. Headed to Fort Worth, Texas. and had a baby girl. Little Haesoo was the love of their lives in this great big, wide, wide world. V 2 By the time Haesoo was ten years old, taught herself to barrel ride, Could trick shoot like Annie Oakley. Her parents beamed with pride. School all day; She worked at night. Always on the go. Then, every other weekend, starred in a Wild West Show. Cho Asian Cowgirl. She's a cut above the rest, Pretty as a lotus blossom, wilder than the wild, wild West. V 3 Haesoo graduated college. Got herself an acting degree. Owned a new Mandarin restaurant by the time she was 23. Looked real cute in her suede, fringe vest at the Houston Rodeo. Took first place in the barrel race. You shoulda seen her go! Cho Br Now, we thought this was downright cool, but wait, there's even more! One night she had some trouble right outside her store. V 4 Tough kids in the parking lot. She said to move along! They asked her just what she would do. It didn't take her long, Cocked her rifle twice. Shot the cigarette butt out of one dude's mouth. She yelled, "Scram!!' They turned and ran, and she could hear them scream and shout-- Cho Wednesday September 17, 2008 Revised, Monday September 29, 2008
