I have been playing and writing songs for more years than most of you have been alive. I started classical piano when I was 8, 12-string guitar when I was ten, and wrote my first song when I was 16. I am largely self-taught, but have benefitted greatly from the many bands I've played with over the years. I've also been an avid listener of music, and sought to incorporate many different styles into my songwriting. As you will hear, my songs reflect the fact that I've been many places and done many things other than just play music. They have, in the original sense of the word, character.

Story behind the song
My ex-wife and I were riding down Hwy 14 between Ozark and Sparta, Missouri. She suggested that she might just take the next spaceship that went came by. This song was my response.
Lyrics
SPACESHIP FOR LOVERS Dan Matheny – In the Year of Our Lord 1995 Verse I can’t believe you’re tellin’ me this story, Your leavin’ tomorrow and your ship’ll be ready soon. You’re taking a flight of unselfish glory, With a hope an’ a prayer, Ya hope I’ll be coming soon. I can’t believe what my ears are tellin’ me, After all these years, These earthbound years, I can’t believe my ears. Chorus You’ve got a spaceship for lovers. An’ there’s still room for one. It’s fueled by being very quiet, Yes, and knowing the journey’s begun. And so we’re leaving tomorrow, To find ourselves the other sky. Well, I’m looking forward to traveling with you, Watching ol’ stars go by. Repeat Verse and Chorus I can’t believe what my ears are telling me…
