I have been playing and writing songs for more years than most of you have been alive. I started classical piano when I was 8, 12-string guitar when I was ten, and wrote my first song when I was 16. I am largely self-taught, but have benefitted greatly from the many bands I've played with over the years. I've also been an avid listener of music, and sought to incorporate many different styles into my songwriting. As you will hear, my songs reflect the fact that I've been many places and done many things other than just play music. They have, in the original sense of the word, character.

Story behind the song
Jamie Adams. She was the hostess at a restaurant where I was the head grill cook at the time. I was 19, she was 15. Another relationship, among many, that didn't work out. But I had this dream after it was over, and wrote these lyrics down.
Lyrics
SEE WHAT LOVE CAN BRING Dan Matheny – In the Year of Our Lord 1980 I was the boy standing in the yard, An’ you were the girl standing by the door. I sang to you a song of love, Until you’d hear it no more. I cried to you then I ran away, To a stream that led no where at all. But I remember those last gazes, Those eyes I wish I’d never saw. An’ I was gonna be the knight in shining armor, An’ you the maiden in distress. But somehow a man loses his honor, When he sees the fallen lace and wrinkled dress. So hear the love song that I sing, See what love can bring. See what love can bring. And now you wonder at the pain, An’ how can a grown man cry? But pictures seldom leave the frame, ‘cept in the minds of passersby. So hear the love song that I bring, See what love can bring. Instrumental See what love can, see what love can, see what love can bring to me! See what love can, see what love can, see what love can bring to me! See what love can, see what love can, see what love can bring to me!
