Story behind the song
Wanted to write a song about not looking to ourselves for the answers to the problems we don't have the power to change anyway...when we put our focus on the one that can...our selfishness melts away..
Lyrics
Well I was walking through my life, with eyes so fixed and hands closed tight I couldn’t see the forest for the trees And I’d been trying for too long, to make right of all my wrongs, with no answers I could see – no, no no no, no And I got tired of selfish me I once thought I’d be okay, if you’d just do what I would pray, but that’s not how it’s meant to be – I needed inspiration, a brand new contemplation, yah – of what true life could be – oh it took a while, but I got tired of selfish me When I was sitting on that fence, built so long ago (I was not alone) You knew my heart you knew my mind, you knew better all the time Oh, oh When I stop leaning on myself, for those things that I can’t help, oh Lord I find the answers. When I put myself aside and let your wisdom be my eyes The selfish melts away. 2nd - I was no where going fast – I saw my future, like my past and prayers were just routine You were patient all that time, you knew I’d follow your design You made it plain for me to see Now I’m so amazed You take away the selfish me And when they asked me what has changed, why haven’t things just stayed the same? I’ll give the credit where it’s due, cuz I’d be nothing without you. Bridge: Although I’m far from being done, you don’t stop what you’ve begun, (it’s getting better everyday) – Know I can count on your advice to keep me going for what’s right – cuz you never ever let me down.
