Story behind the song
One day i was walking down the beach at Malibu with my friend Shea. I turned around to see our footprints being washed away by a wave. I thought how much like those footprints are our lives. Some time later I woke up and created the music. I had the main idea recorded quickly and wondered."Where is this coming from?" Then my father called from Detroit and said,"Michael I have some bad news!" The doctors gave him 6 months to live before cancer consumed him. I wrote the lyrics that afternoon. The song debut was at my fathers funeral service. God gave him 9 months. I got to be with him for the last two. "And so my friend you see our lives like footprints in the sand, untill they're washed away and were gone."
