Story behind the song
I spent a lot of time as a salesman. I learned all the tricks of the trade. Unfortunately, the one skill I could never master was lying. I kept trying to do what was right instead of going for the quick buck. Once I decided to serve my Father, I wanted to write a song about my experiences in the material world.

A lot of people said if I would follow them,
That they would teach me all the ways that I could win.
They said if I would do exactly what they say,
That I could be a winner just like them some day.
They said the secret, and I had to learn it well,
To get to Heaven, you have got to go through Hell.
Cause that's the only way to the gates of Heaven.
So I decided if I had that much to gain,
It would be worth it to endure a little pain.
If I could be a big important, wealthy man,
That I would follow and conform to the plan.
But all I found as I cheated and I lied,
And traded money for my dignity and pride,
It never got me close to the gates of Heaven.
So I decided I would make another choice.
I started listening to my Father's voice.
He led me straight to what I was looking for.
So now I'm walking in the steps that Jesus trod.
And every day brings me new riches from my God.
He gives me peace and joy and love abundantly.
And I see heaven's gates opening for me.
There is no doubt about where my path will lead.
And I have everything that I could ever need.
And I am on the road to the gates of Heaven.
