Lyrics
Louder Than Oppression I talk in my head a lot because when i talk in my head there is no damn accent to remind me of what i have lost. What i lost, i never had… not in my physical possession. I hear glimmers of it in my mother’s voice but my mother doesn’t raise her voice and i need someone to yell louder than oppression. I need someone to raise their damn voice louder than the police’s guns louder than the mother’s tears louder than the voices in their head telling them to be quiet to let it go so it can happen again on another day. Go on…let it loose… Rage against the machine gun. Be like dmx, go up to a cop and go Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr… But… Growls are inarticulate. They don’t get the message across and barking dogs just scare me. I need to be done with fear so i can be heard. Cause i’m going to be that person. Five foot two me is gonna work towards being louder than oppression have a voice that’s more long-lasting words that are more powerful an impact stronger than the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. I’m going to be like Ngugi shooting words out of the barrel of my pen words that are humming, coming to get ya so you can join me so that we can tell the world That being louder than oppression is the way to be. Oppression should be shouted down like a bully on a playground or beat down like a rapist. And the oppressor should be cured like Aids or shot down like John F. Kennedy. © 2004 Tichaona M. Chinyelu
