Story behind the song
Iron Worker Man is a story about a WWII vet, my friend Bob, and union iron worker. Strongest 80 year old I ever met (menatlly AND physically). PTSD yes, but he had that shit locked down tight. He was an amazing man.
Lyrics
Iron Worker Man

Iron worker man, you always took a stand for what seemed right
Iron worker man, kept with the union plan, stayed with the fight
To say the work was hard don't do it justice
The money, it was good, but the times were tough
One look into your steel blue eyes I see
All the work in the world would never be enough
Iron worker man, watchedas the times of sand through glass hours fell
Iron worker man, your stories leave their brand on me as well
Always managed to put food on the table
Always there was one more mouth to feed
Even now the hand is strong and able
To bend the rod and solder on the bead
You stood as tall as the buildings that you made
When America was more than a charade
You watched as they came down at World Trade
It would seem they tried to rain on our parade
Iron worker man,
Iron worker man,
Iron worker man,
Iron worker man,
