Story behind the song
This was written as an explaination from a woman to her lover, its a glimpse into why a woman on the rebound can come across as desperate. I wanted to illustrate how deep the need can go when one feels abandoned, ie "Sir could you spare, just a portion a spark" and how though she seeks love in this man she longs for her first love still and moarns his loss- "O love sing me songs of the moon"
Lyrics
Just a girl, when I married, I had ner turned 19 my life was my husband and home Oh I squandered my youth on the promise of bliss and believed that my love would not roam believed that my love would not roam T'was a time he did love me and call me his own and forever did promise his kiss But the moon called him on, my gypsy he's gone With my heart oh my love was remiss now i long for the warmth of a kiss So sir could you spare just a portion, a spark For my loves light has faded too soon He is gone and I'm left in the cold and the dark He was called by the light of the moon My loves lost to the light of the moon. Oh the rush heavy tick, of my heels on the floor the clock chimes the life I have missed I'm flung into this night, by a longing for more Seeking light in the warmth of a kiss, seeking light in the warmth, So sir could you spare just a portion, a spark For my loves light has faded too soon He has gone and I'm left in the cold and the dark He was called by the light of the moon My loves lost to the light of the moon. O sir could you spare just a portion, a spark For my loves light has faded too soon Will you waltz with me now for a moment tonight and sing me sweet songs of the moon, O love, sing me songs of the moon.
