Artist picture
Singer/Songwriter in the tradition of classic country artists. A little humor and a whole lot of heart.
I've been writing songs since 1974. Over the past few years, I've participated in open mic's whenever possible and have become active in the Nashville Songwriters Association International ("NSAI").

Story behind the song
True Story. Sort of. Passing through the airport in Atlanta when I saw a blonde sitting alone at a table working on her second beer and wondered to myself what her story was?
Lyrics
It was an airport lounge layover in Atlanta She was working on her second longneck beer I was tired and too far gone to lay my tried and true lines on her Just said, Darlin' what's a girl like you doin' here? She smiled a little sadly I suspected Said I only wish I didn't wish I knew Seems I'm waiting on a love that I've been waiting on too long 'Til there's nothing else but nothing left to do I tried to find the words to touch her sorrow Shape it into something short of pain She placed her hand in mine and said I bet you're pressed for time I laughed and said Not since I missed my plane We talked until the lights were dimmed at closing Which at first I thought a blessing in disguise As we left there arm in arm I softly cursed myself not knowing What to do about the hunger in her eyes The morning sunlight found us lying fully clothed in bed Where she'd invited me to take her I gave of myself instead Years have passed and I've not heard a word from her since then But I like to think perhaps that night restored her faith in men It was an airport lounge layover in Atlanta She was working on her second longneck beer © John Tolley All Rights Reserved
