Artist picture
Singer/Songwriter in the tradition of classic country artists. A little humor and a whole lot of heart.
I've been writing songs since 1974. Over the past few years, I've participated in open mic's whenever possible and have become active in the Nashville Songwriters Association International ("NSAI").

Story behind the song
I was driving to pick up a birthday cake for my daughter and listening to country radio. A Keith Whitley song came on and I was moved to tears at the thought of his passing. I felt compelled to write a song that would pay tribute to he and other country legends that have passed on.
Lyrics
Heaven's gone country Lots of our good friends with our good Lord Patsy Cline and Conway Twitty Johnny Cash and young Keith Whitley Harlan, Hank, and Tennessee Ernie Ford Heaven's gone country Don't mean to say a thing 'gainst rock 'n roll But up there above them clouds You can bet they're drawing crowds Singing country music from the soul The Righteous Brothers told us all how life's a one night stand As for me, well I took it to heart They went on to explain heaven has a rockin' band I reckon that's where me and them boys part Heaven's gone country Lots of our good friends with our good Lord Patsy Cline and Conway Twitty Johnny Cash and young Keith Whitley Waylon, Buck, and Tennessee Ernie Ford Heaven's gone country Don't mean to say a thing 'gainst rock 'n roll But up there above them clouds You can bet they're drawing crowds Singing country music from the soul Here on earth the Grand Ole Opry fills our hearts with joy Singing songs we've come to know and love If I don't miss my guess they've been blessed with Mr. Roy They're singing them same songs up there above Heaven's gone country Lots of our good friends with our good Lord Patsy Cline and Conway Twitty Johnny Cash and young Keith Whitley Chris LeDoux and Tennessee Ernie Ford Heaven's gone country Don't mean to say a thing 'gainst rock 'n roll But up there above them clouds You can bet they're drawing crowds Singing country music from the soul © John Tolley All Rights Reserved
