Co-written with MaryPat McKenna, this song morphed out of a conversation about life challenges her nephew was experiencing.

Story behind the song
Forrest Gump said there just are never enough rocks. That's what this song really is about...but there is hope...sometimes there are stones we just shouldn't throw away. Even the rough ones provide a path for us to travel. When MaryPat and I co-wrote this her nephew had his doubts about that path...those stones..this was really her advice to him....needless to say conversation turned into prose and a compatible melody. Hope you enjoy it.
Lyrics
Just a lazy summer day
Along the banks of Turquoise Lake
I found a boy who lacked the joy
He had anger in his eyes
He's throwin' stones with every toss he groans
He's got some pain...
His tears fall like rain...
He wants to run away.
He said...
This one's for my daddy and his thunderin' hand.
And this one's for feelin' so alone.
And this one's for the people who never really gave a damn...
There's never enough stones...never enough stones.
I know just how he feels...
His heartache is surely real...but I know...
Whether you go or stay...
there's always something in the way.
You fight the fight...
you plead for right...
to keep the wolves at bay.
You're young in years growing up with fears...
All the do's and don'ts...
all the can'ts and won'ts...
They're all your steppin' stones.
Don't throw away your steppin' stones.
'cause boy...
I once had a daddy with thunderin' hands.
And I once felt so all alone....
but there are people who really do give a damn.
Don't throw away your steppin' stones...
Don't throw away your steppin' stones.
All the do's and don'ts
All the can'ts and won'ts
All the cans and wills...
All the joys and thrills...
They're all your steppin' stones.
Don't throw away your steppin' stones...We've both thrown our share of stones.
