A song full of contradictions
singer songwriter brown karl
Singer/songwriter from Britain, I use my varying influences to try and create a new sound; Folk-Metal. I've been playing guitar for about three years, starting out playing The Shadows, but have added a lot to my setlist of covers, as well as having an ever growing number of original pieces.

Story behind the song
This song actually started life as a four stanza poem. I was bored one day, and, having been reading 'Paradise Lost' books one and two for an English Lit class, I wrote down a few things basing it on that. A classmate saw the poem, and asked what the title was - so I just called it "Bert". In the days that followed, the poem started to nag at me, so I went back to it, and extended it into a song. A lot of the messages in the song sound as if they're meaningless, which is why the last verse recommends listening to the song again - it's to get you to listen to it and start to think more about what it is that's being said in the song - rather than simply being a list of contradictory statements, it, to me, is describing aspects of humanity.
Lyrics
The light is in the darkness The darkness is the light The fires are all burning The fires have gone out Through out complacency We reached to the unreachable Even though it was in reach We tried to stop believing By believing in ourselves It’s all hypocrisy Through seas of flames I’m walking Through flames of water falling Shrouds are lifted from my eyes Still I cannot see the sky But I see everything And nothing Through hunger and through suffering With lots of gold to spare Through rolling hills and open fields Filled with rotten air We are happy We’re in misery We thought of the unthinkable Nothing to think about We answered the unanswerable Without even knowing the question We are everything We’re nothing The world is getting larger The Earth is getting smaller The stars are so much closer now But they’re still so far away We are silent We’re raucous Through fields of empty darkness wander Through forests of pure light Stop to stare at the sun and moon They are long dead now Just like our souls I hope you understand these words Try to comprehend their meaning If you can’t work out what I’m saying Play this song again And you’ll get it soon
