The sole survivor of a nuclear holocaust describes the view
singer songwriter brown karl
Singer/songwriter from Britain, I use my varying influences to try and create a new sound; Folk-Metal. I've been playing guitar for about three years, starting out playing The Shadows, but have added a lot to my setlist of covers, as well as having an ever growing number of original pieces.

Story behind the song
The music was just me practising one day, when suddenly I noticed the tolling sound that was coming out with the rhythmn. The lyrics, or more accurately the stanza's, were influenced by a song by The Animals, the name of which escapes me. I'd only heard it once, but I liked the way it was spoken, with the hushed "bring out your dead" and the way that towards the end the music stopped, leaving the words alone showing the way the bell had been silenced. Something to do with the Black Death I think. Anyways, I was trying to write something similar, and the result of a nuclear holocaust was the first thing that popped into my head. This version is actually an updated version of the original, which was scippled on a piece of paper and summarily lost.
Lyrics
I walk through the streets of the city at night and see The decaying remains of humanity Crumbling into dust, and beyond dust Nothing else remains. And the bell it tolls on The winds bring the stench of blood and the silence of death. The red mist hangs heavy on the land. Silently drawing no breath, I walk on Through death, destruction. And still it goes on The walls are crumbling all around I see Shadows where once lived children’s dreams. Now the are gone, No children, no families, all gone. And the bell it tolls on. I reach the banks of the river filled with blood. The red mist shrouds all about, suffocating Drawing life away The bell is now silent. No-one is left for it to toll. And still it goes on
