Story behind the song
The crew of the rescue starships around Captain Kirk makes a stopover on the Mercur on the way to Uranus, the planet of the robots! On this planet Mercur, everything is reversed than on earth, the cold is preferred, the water is the lifeblood and not the oxygen and the air, but the CO2 and the smoke are life-sustaining. The human beings, however, are in reality half robot and human slaves who are considered by the evil robots to be doing the heaviest work here. They live in giant cages of algae and plants and feed on it. Around them are giant snakes that spray poison. It is almost impossible to live here, so the crew only stays to get information about the long route.
Of course, they do not get any information because these human-like beings have been surgically manipulated by the robots into the Broca and Wernicke zones of the brain, so that these beings can neither speak nor understand.
