Story behind the song
As one of the early tracks written for the album When Desires Collide, "Wandering Eye" ended up being the most performed song as far as live performances went. It was the song that was the first to be performed live and went on to be a crowd-favorite, particularly due to its catchy A7-Em guitar rift. Starting essentially as a message towards particular eye candy found too intimidating, "Eye" became a kind of thesis, not only for the album, but for almost all of its sister-songs written up to that point in general. It was about desire. It was about restraint. It was about frustration. Confession. "Wandering Eye" captured it all, and then some.
Lyrics
I don't know what I want Is that something strange? It's a phrase that I can't contain within It's my train of thought Arbitrary but true I wish that it wasn't about you Now my whole world's gone askew It is stupid of me to mention your name When you don't even know that I look your way It's like this everytime I go completely astray I can't make you go away Now everything's not so okay I don't know what I want Is that something strange? It's a phrase that I can't contain within It's my train of thought Arbitrary but true I wish that it wasn't about you Now my whole world's gone askew I wish it wasn't so simple I wish there was more If I only I knew who not to adore But then now love is blind Once a while I'll stare And you are so unaware And I wish that I didn't care
