Story behind the song
A simple track that ended up being the last song written for the album. Written during the recording process, "Bitter" surfaced after an argument on the issues surrounding passion versus obligation. Feeling morbid on the inside, but not violent enough to kill, "Bitter" literally spewed out into existence, encapsulating all the ugly thoughts one feels after a heated disagreement with no resolution. The black-key laced melody shifts through the emotions of mock-indifference to pure darkness, making "Bitter" a track that sounds depressing but on the edge. Not a particular favorite, as far as listeners were concerned, but a keen predecessor to "Wandering Eye."
Lyrics
Bitter thoughts Shining like tragedy Why do you Continue To speak Bitter feeling Trickling like saccharine Curl the spine 'Round again And breathe Why do you resist How can you persist The dark monster feeds on coal Bitter memory Fading in like Jupiter Tongue split by dagger And bleeds So this is what you get from me What could you expect from me
