Story behind the song
This is an evolved version of the first song I ever wrote with lyrics. Inspired by my Dad, who, when on a vacation to Reno, said that my Mom was bad luck and he would lose money whenever she showed up when he was playing at the Blackjack tables. When I heard that story, the lyrics for Emotional Superstition popped in my head. When we finally got home, I immediately grabbed my guitar and started bashing out the chord changes.
Lyrics
(Verse 1) You better keep away 'Cause when you're near All hell breaks loose And I'm afraid of you Emotional Superstition Cross my fingers Knock on wood Whenever I give you my love (Chorus) Darlin' I love you But every time you're close I pray that when I'm through with you That my body doesn't fall apart Die of a broken heart (Verse 2) And like a crack on the sidewalk I keep an eye on your every move I'll keep my fingers crossed And hope my world don't fall apart Emotional Superstition Gets the best of me When you're in my arms And the lights are down low (Chorus) (Guitar solo) (Verse 3) Because my love Every night with you Is faced with the fear Of that dreadful cause Emotional Superstition Cross my fingers Knock on wood Whenever I give you my love Emotional Superstition Gets the best of me When you're in my arms And the lights are down low Down low Down low Copyright 1981/2005, Rick Torres RICK: Bass, Guitars, Vocals Paul Manley: Drums Recorded & Mixed by Daniel Willett at Telekon Studios, Scottsdale, AZ
