Story behind the song
Like a moth to an electric fire I'm drawn to express over-complicated ideas in lyrics. Having 3 singers meant you could have different points of view to this sad story of foreign invasion by a televangelist lusting to be the strong arm of the Lord, his gospel owing more to Nietsche than to Christ. Clare gets to be his angelic chorus, and Jema is the voice of his next country of choice, at least in his own poor overheated mind. I think that the "way to a man's heart...." line may be a quotation from the well known philosopher Terry Pratchett. Tim plays all the guitar on this one, very unusual, that might have happened during Matt's alien abduction year.
Lyrics
I’m getting the urge, hitting the road finding my way to the motherlode taking the purge, cracking the code bring me to the verge of a 3rd rate episode these smart bugs make my head go funny smart bombs, smart drugs, smart money come to the hour of my discontent drunk on the power of my super-strength I’m firing up my engines, honey, no time to rehearse I’m wired up to my vengeance, Lord, I’m coming with a curse I’m trampling the vineyards, walking tall on the earth and heaven help anyone who gets what they deserve Behold I make the world new, better not mess God bless will to my power cos now is the hour & it’s getting late you know who you are when you know who you hate take me higher, baptism of fire the message sends and the message ends set me apart for the new age the way to a man’s heart is through his ribcage Everyone’s a sinner, baby, push comes to shove take me up to heaven with your big big love charge me for re-entry, baby, I’ll pay any price raise me in the rapture, honey, take me to paradise.
